What to expect
The process of getting dentures fitted depends on a few things. One of which is the state of your teeth that need to be replaced. If there are teeth that need to be extracted, you will need to allow for your gums to heal before fitting dentures into their spots. This can take up to one-two weeks. If you are concerned about having gaps in your teeth for that long, talk to one of our trusted dentists about the possibility of immediate dentures or dental implants.
Another factor to consider is the type of denture desired. Dentures can be made from porcelain, acrylic resin, nylon, and chrome cobalt metal. Porcelain used to be the most popular, but resin is now the most common because it is lighter, cheaper, and sticks better to its base.
Dentures have come a long way from where they used to be, but there are still foods you should avoid or eat carefully if you have dentures.
- Whole fresh fruits
- Hard crusty breads
- Tough red meats
- Nut butters
- Chewing gum and sticky candies
